Background and Experience

I’m a Therapist with 25 years’ experience working in private practice and local voluntary and statutory organisations. My early work supported women through the development of local low- cost counselling services and services for minority ethnic women and their families. Later, I gained experience working in student counselling services, Hospice Care and in private practice. I’ve undertaken additional training to support my work in a variety of areas and especially with relationship difficulties; stress and anxiety; trauma; loss and bereavement and specific or early life events. I’m also a Clinical Supervisor and have an extensive background in counselling training. I currently work for an Awarding Organisation for counselling training qualifications.

I take a humanistic person-centred approach to therapy and supervision which means that I trust that you can discover what is important to you and to make choices and decisions that will help you to manage the difficulties that you face. I won’t judge you, but attempt to understand your world, as you see and experience it. Our relationship will be based on mutual trust and respect. I offer individual and group therapy and clinical supervision.

Our initial conversation by telephone is free and confidential and will give you an opportunity to discuss your concerns. Together we can get an idea whether counselling might be helpful for you.

You’ll be able to find out more about how I work and whether this would suit your needs. You may know what you would like to achieve, or I may be able to help you understand this better. I’ll  be able to give you suggestions if you need another type of support. I’ll listen and try to understand you without any judgement and if you feel that you would like to meet for an initial consultation, we can make arrangements for this.

At our initial consultation, we can decide if you would like further sessions. You’ll  be able to decide yourself how many sessions you would like, and this can be reviewed at any time. Sometimes just a few sessions may be all that you’ll need to work through your concerns. You might, however, prefer to work for a longer period or agree an open -ended contract. Sessions are usually weekly at the same time, but I am flexible around your other commitments. You’re under no obligation to continue with therapy if you change your mind at any time. Your sessions will last for 60 minutes. The session fee applies to the initial consultation.

The initial conversation, consultation and therapy sessions are confidential with a few legal exceptions which I will explain to you. As an accredited member of BACP, I am bound by their code of ethical practice, and I will explain this to you.
