Training
My initial counselling training at the University of Hertfordshire was a dual model approach, offering both psychodynamic and person centred perspectives.
To this I added a training in Primal therapy, completing in 1996.
In 2007 I completed an introductory training (50 hours) in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which has informed and widened my practice yet further.
During 2010 I underwent an additional training in Lifespan Integration, an approach developed out of trauma work, which has subsequently been found to be effective generally, particularly with regard to attachment difficulties, and am now effectively incorporating this into my Client work.
Experience
Having been a Solicitor in private practice for 20 years, in 1992 I began my Counselling training, with placements in a GP practice and a voluntary organisation.
In 1996 I became one of the founding members of the Dunton Centre and as well as working from the Centre, I practice from a dedicated Consulting Room at my home in Shefford.
I work with adult individuals and couples, short and long term, including brief counselling as an Affiliate for several Employee Assistance Providers.
I have a special interest in facilitating groups for overweight women.
I have undergone intensive personal therapy (individual and group) over many years and have a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
How I Work
My approach is humanistic and integrative: working from a psychodynamic base, I have over many years of training, practice and professional development, absorbed concepts, understandings and tools from a variety of counselling models, which have become a part of the unique mix I bring into the counselling room. I believe that this richness of experience enables me to work with a diversity of clients on a range of issues, and to be adaptive to their unique needs.
Initial Procedure
I will offer one or two assessment sessions of one hour each to enable us to find out more about each other, if we are to work together, and how best to approach the issues that bring you to counselling.
I also offer couples counselling and supervision.
