Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling.
Training and Experience
My training is rooted in contemporary psychodynamic theory. This model is a framework to help clients achieve a greater understanding of themselves and their relationship to their world. I look at patterns of relating, how past experiences may have impacted on their life and what they might wish to be different in the future. My training enables me to work short term or long term with adults depending on their needs and wishes.
I have worked with adult clients in an agency setting for a number of years both short term and long term. Before that I volunteered as a bereavement coordinator doing telephone support work with families who had experienced single or complete loss of their twins.
I have experience of working with clients who present with a variety of different issues including anxiety, depression, loss, relationship, work/life balance, suicidal ideation and autistic spectrum disorders.
Previously I worked in a professional commercial setting. This has given me a real understanding of how difficult it can be for people to establish and maintain a healthy work/life balance. It has also instilled in me the importance of client confidentiality, professionalism and working ethically.
HOW I WORK
In my work I aim to help you to explore, understand and manage issues in your life, which may be causing distress, confusion or difficulty.
In order to do this I believe it is important to know yourself and to be able to utilize your resources. This helps to build resilience and a personal toolkit, which you can use to resolve problems and pursue goals that are meaningful to you.
It is important to me and I believe important for the work that we take time to establish a working relationship built on trust and respect so that you feel safe.
We will seek to explore what feels difficult in your life and how that might be impacting upon you and those around you.
I do this in a non-judgmental, empathic way working at your chosen pace.
I offer an initial assessment after which you can decide whether you wish to commit to counselling. I offer short term or open ended counselling.
Throughout all of this you will have a consistent, regular space to use as you wish, my time and my undivided attention.
I see clients on a Monday between 10am- 4pm
