Some important considerations of Sandtray work.
- Offers possibilities of exploration beyond the limited repertoire of words, beyond the conscious, the verbal and the 'known' and is useful for those whose verbal capacity is undeveloped or unreachable
- This is a pragmatic way of working . A situation, family system , or dilemma can be recreated in the sand, made concrete and worked on.
- The kinaesthetic properties of the sand facilitates access to the non verbal and preverbal part of the brain.
- There are proven neurobiological implications linking the right and left hemisphere of the brain, particularly useful in working with trauma.
- This is a flexible medium which can be combined with other creative techniques.
- It is creative, and fun and offers a vital opportunity to play!
